Safety of our riders and a creating a positive, family-friendly atmosphere are our utmost priorities. We strive to maintain happy, healthy horses that enjoy their jobs at our facility. The property we operate on in Haile Plantation comes with a unique history. When the surrounding communities were developed, this property was dedicated for storm water retention. Over the years the property has been primarily used for gardening and to house Haile resident’s horses. In 2010, through the efforts of many individuals serving on the three home owners association boards, the county permitted its development into an equestrian center. With the county’s approval came a few stipulations, one being that we would not be permitted to have permanent bathroom facilities on the property. A second restriction was that we could not interfere with the flood plain in building our large riding arena. Under their guidelines, we constructed our arena in the best way possible, knowing that during periods of heavy rain we may experience brief times when the large arena is too wet to ride. Any missed riding days, lessons, and horseback rides will be made up to you at your earliest convenience. With these considerations, we hope you understand that we do not have permanent bathroom facilities and there will be times when the large riding arena will be closed. Sincerely, Regina Esterman, PhD Owner/Manager, Haile Equestrian Haile Equestrian LLC Riding Lesson Agreement THIS AGREEMENT is entered into between Haile EquestrianLLC, located at, 7680 SW 46thBlvd, Gainesville, FL 32608, hereinafter referred to as “Haile Equestrian”, and, a legal parent or guardian of the minor(s) residing at, hereinafter referred to as “Client”; A. Lesson Procedures
(a) Lessons will consist of 45-60 minutes of instruction. Client understands that on occasion, a lesson may be extended in time at the instructor’s discretion without additional charge to the client. Likewise, on occasion lessons may be shortened for inclement weather or other circumstances. The primary responsibility of the instructor is the safety of riders, horses, and guests to the facility, therefore, the instructor has the right to deviate from the schedule when safety is a concern.
(b) Clients must wear an ASTM/SEI approved horseback riding helmet and appropriate riding boots at all times when riding. Helmets are available for client use at Haile Equestrian. For assistance in selecting appropriate riding boots, please request a copy of Haile Equestrian’s Helmet and Boot Guide.
(c) Client understands that lessons are scheduled back to back and it is extremely important that the client arrives on time to their scheduled lesson. Client further understands that even if they are late, the time for ending the lesson will remain as scheduled. The only condition for extending lesson times is if the instructor is not present at the scheduled lesson start time.
(d) Lesson time includes all necessary time with the instructor. For beginner riders, this will include instruction on grooming, tacking, mounting, ride time, dismounting, and the horse’s care after the ride. Once the client can groom and tack the horse up to specification alone (the instructor will advise when), the client may come 15 minutes early to get the horse ready for the lesson and untack/care for the horse after the lesson outside of the scheduled lesson time. This is optional, but will yield greater instruction time in the saddle for the client. If the client would prefer on occasion to have the horse prepared at their arrival and cared for after the ride by one of Haile Equestrian’s staff members, please notify us in advance and we will provide this service for a small additional fee (refer to Price Directory for rates).
(e) A horse will be assigned that is worthy of the day’s lessons. Always ask which horse to ride if it is not posted or already stated. Do not saddle up and ride any horse other than the one designated by Haile Equestrian. All horses must be well groomed prior to being ridden.
(f) While client is receiving instruction, client must agree to abide by all instructions given to them by the instructors. Client further understands that a lesson may be terminated at any time at Haile Equestrian’s discretion without rebate, if in the instructor’s opinion the client is ill, not being sufficiently responsive to the instruction, or the client is in violation of this agreement or Haile Equestrian’s Rules. Client understands they have read and understand Sec A B. Payments
(a) Client agrees to pay the current rates listed on the Haile Equestrian Price Directory for each session of instruction. Payment is due at the time each lesson is scheduled and all lessons must be pre-paid. (b) Client may elect to purchase a package of lessons at a reduced lesson rate. Payment for a package of lessons is due in full before the first lesson. Lessons that are scheduled and the client misses will be counted as a lesson received; unless the client gives proper notice per Haile Equestrian’s Cancellation Policy (Section C below). A package of lessons is only for use by a single rider and cannot be transferred to anyone other than an immediate family member of the same riding level.
(c) No refunds will be given on pre-paid lessons or lesson packages. If a lesson is missed, it is the client’s responsibility to contact Haile Equestrian to schedule a makeup ride per the Cancellation Policy (Section C below).
(d) Haile Equestrian may change our fees from time to time. Either party may terminate the lessons by giving notice to the other. Client understands they have read and understand Sec B C. Cancellation, Inclement Weather, and Missed Lesson Policy (a) We only have availability for a certain number of students and your regularly scheduled time slot is valuable. Client must give at least 24 hours advance notice to cancel a lesson. If client does not show up for a scheduled lesson, client will forfeit 100% of the lesson cost. For extenuating circumstances concerning a missed lesson, please speak with Haile Equestrian directly.
(b) Lessons at Haile Equestrian are offered rain or shine. In the event of severe weather (lightning, heavy wind/rain), lessons will be canceled at the discretion of Haile Equestrian. In the event of rain or extreme heat, all or part of the lesson will be unmounted as a part of our Horse Management Program. This lesson time will teach the many aspects of horse care and ownership that occur out of the saddle. (c) Make-up lessons will be at the discretion of Haile Equestrian and must be completed within 2 weeks from the date of a cancellation. Please advise Haile Equestrian if you do not elect to participate in unmounted lessons. In this case, your lesson time will be made up, in all or in part within 2 weeks, for the time missed due to inclement weather. Client understands they have read and understand Sec C D. Tack and Equipment (a) All tack and equipment needed for the horse will be provided by Haile Equestrian at no cost to the client. Provided equipment must be properly cared for and used only for its intended purpose. Client is responsible for inspecting and verifying the condition of such equipment and tack prior to its use and for informing Haile Equestrian if supplies need replenishing or if tack is in need of repair or replacement.
(b) Client is responsible for replacing any lost or broken tack due to negligence. For example, if the client allows the horse to step on the reins of the bridle and it is damaged, the client is responsible for replacement.
(c) Client is welcome to use their own tack if it fits the horse properly as determined by Haile Equestrian. All horses must be ridden in the bridles and bits provided by Haile Equestrian. Client understands they have read and understand Sec D E. Guests to the Farm (a) Clients are welcome to bring guests to see Haile Equestrian, visit the horses, and to watch the client take their lessons. Client is responsible for ensuring all of their guests report immediately to the office upon arrival to sign a liability release. Guests must remain in the viewing areas and lounge during the lesson time and may not wander through the facility, disrupt the lesson, or interfere with other barn activities.. Client understands they have read and understand Sec E F. Nature of Horses (a) Haile Equestrian follows a rigid safety program. Horses are selected and tested to ensure their safety and suitability for our program. However, no horse is a completely safe horse. Horses are 5 to 10 times larger and 20 to 40 times more powerful than a human. If a rider falls from a horse to the ground, it will typically be at a distance of 3.5 to 5.5 feet and can result in injury to the rider. Horseback riding is one of the only sports were a smaller, weaker predator (human) imposes its will on a much larger, stronger prey animal (horse). (b) If a horse is frightened or provoked, it may divert from its training and act according to its natural survival instincts, which may include but are not limited to: stopping short, changing directions or speeds at will, shifting its weight, rearing, bucking, bolting, kicking, biting, or running from danger. Client understands the nature of horses and their unpredictability as described in Sec F
G. Binding Affect (a) The parties hereto agree that this Agreement shall be binding on their respective heirs, estate, successors and assigns.
(b) Failure of either party to abide by and perform any and all other terms, covenants, conditions, and obligations of this Agreement shall constitute a default and shall, in addition to any other remedies provided by law or in equity, entitled the wronged party to reasonable attorney fees and court costs related to such breach.
(c) This Agreement shall be interpreted according to the laws of the state of Florida, and in Alachua county. Any dispute by the Client shall be litigated in and venue shall be the county in which this facility is physically located. If any clause, phrase, or word is in conflict with state law, then that single part is null and void.
(d) In accordance with the Florida Law relating to the limitation of civil liability regarding equine activities: “Under Florida law, an equine activity sponsor or equine professional is not liable for an injury to, or the death of, a participant in equine activities resulting from the inherent risks of equine activities. FLORIDA STATUTES 1993, Title XLV TORTS, CHAPTER 773 EQUINE ACTIVITIES, Fla. Stat. § 773.01 (1993).” This Agreement is subject to the laws of the state of Florida. EXECUTED this day: April 24, 2024 Client Signature: Haile Equestrian LLC Liability Release & Hold Harmless Agreement WARNING Under Florida law, an equine activity sponsor or equine professional is not liable for an injury to, or the death of, a participant in equine activities resulting from the inherent risks of equine activities. FLORIDA STATUTES 1993, Title XLV TORTS, CHAPTER 773 EQUINE ACTIVITIES, Fla. Stat. § 773.01 (1993). 1. I, the undersigned, signing as the legal parent or guardian of the minor, have read and understand, and freely and voluntarily enter into this Release and Hold Harmless Agreement with Regina Esterman and Plantation Community Club LLC, their agents and employees, collectively known as Haile Equestrian LLC (“Farm”), understanding that this Release and Hold Harmless Agreement is a waiver of any and all liability(ies). 2. I have read and fully understand the “WARNING” posted above. 3. I understand the potential dangers that I could incur in mounting, riding, walking, boarding, feeding said horse; including, but not limited to, any interactions with other horses. Understanding those risks I hereby release that Farm, its officers, directors, shareholders, employees and anyone else directly or indirectly connected with that Farm from any liability whatsoever in the event of injury or damage of any nature (or perhaps even death) to me or anyone else caused by or incidental to my electing to mount and ride a horse owned or operated by Regina Esterman, Plantation Community Club LLC, or Haile Equestrian LLC. I have read and understand FLORIDA STATUTES for EQUINE ACTIVITIES, Fla. Stat. § 773.01 (1993). 4. I understand and recognize and warrant that this Release and Hold Harmless Agreement, is being voluntarily and intentionally signed and agreed to, and that in signing this Release and Hold Harmless Agreement I know and understand that this Release and Hold Harmless Agreement may further limit the liability of equine professionals beyond that statutorily provided by the above referenced Florida Statutes; to include any activity, whatsoever, involving an equine, including death, personal injury and/or damage to property. 5. I recognize and agree that I know which equine professional(s) I will be working with, and acknowledge that I agree said equine professional(s) has/have made reasonable and prudent efforts to determine my ability to engage in the equine activity, and has/have sufficient knowledge of my equine and horseback riding skills as to relieve, release and hold harmless said equine professional(s) from any continuing duty to monitor my equine activities. 6. I further voluntarily agree and warrant to Release and Hold Harmless this (these) equine professional(s) from any liability whatsoever, including, but not limited to, any incident caused by or related to said equine professional’s (s’) negligence, relating to injuries known, unknown, or otherwise not herein disclosed; including, but not limited to, injuries, death or property damage from: mounting; riding; dismounting; walking; grooming; feeding; use of horse barn, paddock, trails or horse ring, in any capacity; falling off horse whether horse is bucking, flipping, spooked; or my failure to understand any equine professional’s directions relating to my riding or otherwise use and control, or lack thereof, of my horse or the horse I have been assigned to. NOTICE: Wearing an ASTM/SEI approved hard hat is REQUIRED for ALL independent riders. Wearing an ASTM/SEI approved hard hat is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, but not required for leadline horse or pony rides. Date: April 24, 2024 Haile Equestrian Helmet & Boot Guide HELMETS The majority of serious injuries related to horses involve head injuries. Wearing an ASTM /SEI approved riding helmet is the most important way to practice safe horseback riding, and is required at all times while riding at Haile Equestrian. Horseback riding helmets are available for your use at Haile Equestrian, but are often the first purchase made by students preparing to enter a horseback riding program. A bicycle helmet is not an appropriate substitute for a horseback riding helmet. A horseback riding helmet covers more of a person's head than does a bicycle helmet, fitting lower on the head, particularly at the back of the skull, and has protection distributed evenly around the head rather than concentrated in the front and back. In addition, good ventilation and comfort are important features of a riding helmet. Important criteria when fitting helmets: - The helmet should feel snug around the entire head without pressure points.
- The helmet should sit level on the head and the forehead should be covered by the helmet within two fingers width of the eyebrows.
- Open your mouth in a big yawn. The helmet should pull down on the head. If not, tighten the chin strap.
- If your helmet rocks back more than two fingers above the eyebrows, shorten the front strap and retest.
- If your helmet rocks forward into your eyes, tighten the back strap and retest.
Important criteria when purchasing a helmet: - When shopping for helmets, you will find they are sold in both numerical sizes and S/M/L/XL. To measure for a helmet, measure the circumference of the rider's head with a clothing measuring tape. The tape should circle around the forehead and above the top of the ears. Look up the measurement with the corresponding helmet sizes. These numbers are still helpful when the choices are small, medium, large and extra large.
- We are fortunate to live a short drive from numerous great tack stores. Even if you plan to order online, visit a local tack store to try at least a few helmets on in person to determine the right fit for your head.
- Most manufacturers recommend replacement after five years or so, or whenever the helmet takes a hard blow. Some manufacturers offer low-cost replacement helmets if your helmet is involved in a hard fall.
BOOTS Horse riding boots are protective footgear designed for horseback riding. Most horse related injuries are a result of falling from a horse and being kicked. This can happen if your foot gets caught in the stirrup, which can be caused by inappropriate footwear. Therefore, choosing the right boots is very important. While we have some boots available at Haile Equestrian, it is wise to invest in horseback riding boots. Appropriate footwear will help you feel more comfortable in the saddle. Important criteria when selecting boots: - The boot must have the proper heel height to prevent the foot from sliding through the stirrup. The heel is the most important element of horseback riding boots. The ideal heel is one to two inches high. Do not use a horse riding boot with heel that is more than two inches. This will alter the natural position of your foot in the stirrup and your riding position will be affected.
- The ideal boot has a sole that is smooth or lightly textured to avoid being caught on the tread of the stirrup in the event of a fall. Choose a boot with a plain leather sole that is relatively flat. A rubber sole is perfectly acceptable. Do not buy horseback riding boots with thick treads, as this can increase the risk of your foot becoming stuck in the stirrup.
- A good pair of horseback riding boots should have a good heel and a proper tread. You do not have to have a custom designed boots. For safe riding, your boots only have to meet the two criteria.

We are happy to assist you in locating a helmet or pair of boots, or to be sure the equipment you have purchased fits well. Haile Equestrian Rules & Procedures GENERAL RULES 1. All visitors must sign a liability release in the office before interacting with any horses, whether they will be riding or not.
2. All visitors under the age of 16 must have a parent or guardian present at all times.
3. Haile Equestrian hours of operation are 9:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday - Sunday. Very early/late visits are allowed with advance notice.
4. Please enter and exit the driveway slowly (15 mph) for the safety of our riders.
5. All gates are to be closed at all times. If you open a gate, please close it behind you.
6. Please do not climb, sit, or stand on any fence or the arena sides.
7. No dogs or other pets are permitted on Haile Equestrian property.
8. No running, yelling, or other fast movement that could startle horses.
9. No smoking or alcohol is permitted on Haile Equestrian property.
10. Haile Equestrian is not responsible for any lost, stolen, or damaged items left at the barn.
11. Please report any unsafe condition to Haile Equestrian staff immediately. INTERACTING WITH HORSES 12. An ASTM/SEI approved helmet, long pants, and closed toed shoes are required for all riders.
13. Appropriate riding boots (minimum ½ inch heel) are required for anyone taking lessons or leasing.
14. No horses are permitted in the parking or viewing areas.
15. No mounting or riding horses in the barn or barnyard area. Mount only once in arena area.
16. Lead horses only with a fastened halter and attached lead. Remove the halter before returning the horse to any stall, paddock, or pasture.
17. Prepare your equipment before getting your horse from the paddock. No horses may be left unattended when tied.
18. When using cross ties, please make sure they are connected to the baling twine and not directly to the wall. When you are finished using them, please clip them back up so they are not lying on the ground.
19. If your horse makes a mess on the wash rack or other tying areas, please clean it up into the provided containers.
20. Do not leave any tack or equipment on the wash rack or tying areas. Please help us keep our facility clean by replacing equipment where you found it. This list of rules is to be read and followed for the safety of you and the horses and the safe operation of Haile Equestrian. Please feel free to make comments and suggestions.
